Why copies from a worn key fail
A copy is only as good as the original. If your key is worn, cheap kiosk copies often stick or don't work at all. A locksmith can cut keys to the lock's original code or decode the lock itself, so the new key fits the way it should.
What if you've lost the original?
Without a key to copy, we can make one from the lock. If the lost key could be used by someone else, it's safer to rekey the lock and cut new keys at the same time.
Restricted keys
Some high-security and commercial keys can only be copied with an authorization card or the owner's approval. That protects you. Bring your card or let us confirm with the key holder before we cut.
Frequently asked questions
Can you copy keys stamped 'Do Not Duplicate'?
That stamp is a request, not a technical block. We follow the owner's policy and ask for authorization on business and rental keys.
Is there an after-hours charge for key copying?
Ask when you call; we tell you the price before we come out.
