What causes business lockouts
- Lost or misplaced keys, often on the last person to leave
- Keys that broke in the lock
- Failed keypad, fob or electronic access
- Locks jammed by wear or tampering
Five ways to keep a lockout from stopping work
- Keep a sealed spare key or code with a second manager.
- Write a short lockout procedure and share the locksmith's number.
- Service high-traffic locks and closers before they fail.
- Use a master key system so more than one key opens critical doors.
- Consider keyless entry to remove lost keys from the equation.
When you do get locked out
Call us with the business address and door type. We ask for proof of authorization on arrival, such as an ID matching the business records, then open the door with the least intrusive method. If keys are lost we can rekey the affected locks on the same visit.
Frequently asked questions
Who can authorize opening a business?
The owner, manager or someone listed as a key holder. If you aren't on the records, we may need the owner to confirm by phone.
Can you open electronic locks?
Many, yes. Battery failures are common, and some keypad locks have a key override we can use.
